The Growth of Terrorism ...

An American terrorist, having fled Florida to hide out in Costa Rica, had to cross into Panama for some visa-related reason and was nabbed at the border crossing.

The act of terrorism? Well, you see ... its like this: He and his girl were out partying and they each come home pretty blotto. She decides to pack her bags and leave. He decides to continually unpack her suitcase. (Please note: that is a fairly non-violent response. No guns, no knives, no threats, no physical force. He just waits till the suitcase is nearly packed and then dumps it out onto the floor without threatening the woman in any way).

As the night wears on and tempers wear thin she apparently escalates the situation but all he does is get his gun and fire one round into his computer's monitor which may have impaired its usefulness but did not harm anyone or endanger anyone in any way whatsoever. He then unloaded and put the gun away, muttering the inevitable "I didn't know it was loaded".

Police arrested him of course and he was charged with various offenses including firing a missile into a house. The bullet being legally considered a missile and the crime being classified according to crime computer programs as an act of terrorism.

So everyone. Feel safe tonight. An American terrorist was arrested by Panamanian police and will be extradited to the USA to stand trial for what a decade ago would have been known as drunk and disorderly conduct. Somewhere there lurks a draft of a budget request for the fight on terrorism. Somewhere deep in the bowels of officialdom and databases, the counter has been incremented. We now have even more terrorism to deal with. Terrorism! For shooting his computer with a gun he didn't know was loaded. Since when is a dumb drunk who never even threatened his girlfriend with harm classified as a terrorist?
